colour is expression
ikonik
For this project, I collaborated with a Director of Photography on a social media advertisement for Ikonik, a U.S.-based company specializing in professional tattoo products.
The goal was to accurately showcase the natural colors of the tattoos and highlight tattoo artist Luigi Mansi.
My responsibilities included preparing equipment, assisting during the shoot, and managing the post-production process, including color balancing the footage in DaVinci Resolve to ensure the final product met the client’s vision.
For this color correction, I used the Primaries-Log wheels to enhance skin tones and added a subtle bluish tint to the highlights.
I applied the Qualifier-HSL to separate shadows from highlights, reducing intensity in specific zones. Finally, I used sharpening, film grain, and curves for contrast, along with tracking masks in some clips to emphasize faces or tattoos.

I was commissioned by a Director of Photography I frequently collaborate with to create a social media advertisement for a London-based tattoo shop featuring international artists. The client requested a black-and-white style, which presented a challenge as we initially aimed to incorporate some color. Ultimately, I proposed a desaturated look that met their preferences. To introduce the 8 tattoo artists in the video, I used a freeze-frame animation inspired by the movie Snatch. This effect highlighted each artist while maintaining audience engagement, and I kept the freeze frames in black and white to align with the client’s request.

After delivering the first video for Straight Lines Tattoo Studio, the owner requested a second clip using additional footage, with a preference for a black-and-white style. The Director of Photography (DOP) I work with shot new footage and provided the files for editing.
The challenge was to complete the video within 3-4 days. I took visual and audio inspiration from the series Mindhunter and used the existing color grading from the first video, adjusting the saturation in Premiere Pro. I applied the "Monochrome Punch" preset to enhance contrast.
A key difficulty was adapting different video formats, particularly footage from the DJI Osmo Mobile, which had issues with digital noise and definition in low light. To address this, I used a mirrored effect to focus attention on the higher-quality visuals.
